Project Challenges
The people who visit this restaurant are not merely looking for meal, but also for an ambiance in which they can look fashionable. We need to taking cues from this market. Like putting on an accessories to dress uo an outfit, impactful details borrowed from fashion are need to strategically placed tp enliven the space. We need to create ambiance where the design is an industrial look but neater and more detail oriented instead of relying on bricks, rustic wood, and concrete finishes.
The restaurant ‘s location on Gunawarman street makes it one among the many residential turned commercial areas that is increasingly common to find on large street. Another challenges that had been posed by the residential nature of the site was to actualise the concept despite the limited floor ceiling height.
Solution to Project Challenges
Admist the storm of restaurants that are adopting the rustic, austere finishes of industrial chic, we try to introduces a more sophisticated ambiance by applying an unexpected twist: fashion details. The grilled rib restaurant’s initial concept of a barn house is elevated by touches of ornaments, colours, and patterns that are more likely to be found at the runaway rather than the ranch. We play with the fashion details such as belt buckles are used for handles while its strap adorns the trim of the banquet table. A touch of gold is provided through brass elements that layer the archways, highlighting the space with their eye catching sheen. Because the location of this restaurant is among the many residential-turned-commercial areas, its changes in function has to be solved by several design solutions, including additional structural columns to support the kitchen and cold storage on the second storey.
To resolve the ceilling matter, it left exposed on the lower space, strengthening the restaurant’s industrial look. As a variation toward the high end concept, several areas had also been opened up towards glass ceillings, with vertical garden walls and artificial trees to draw the viewer’s eye skyward.
